The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding an Engineering Project Manager to our Solid Waste/Landfill/Environmental team based in Buffalo or Rochester, NY or further down I-90 Corridor.

Your Role:

Responsibilities of this position will include: interpretation of federal, state and local agency regulations; analysis, oversight and review of project work products, including site specific technical data, calculations, technical reports, construction plans, cost estimates, environmental permit applications and permit terms and conditions. These responsibilities will be applied to the Civil, environmental and solid waste industries. Some on-site work and short-term travel may be required. The position will also involve building client relations, and support of new client business development activities including proposals, as well as help with cross-selling.

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and help direct work for multi-project clients, and multiple clients. Typical workload consists of five or more simultaneous projects and timelines.

  • Review work products and provide feedback to promote consistency with Tetra Tech standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and provide best product for the client.

  • Manage multiple staff contributions to projects; coordinate and schedule milestones and final deliverables.

  • Support the work of others and maintain quality control on projects and on managerial (administrative) tasks.

  • Work independently to perform project tasks, design, calculations, and reporting to meet the project specific requirements.

  • Work at landfills, contaminated sites, and/or other sites where heavy equipment, contamination, or other health hazards may exist. Be able to travel for short duration projects if needed.

  • Actively participate and support the safety protocols and best practices when working and traveling for project work.

  • Be a point of contact for clients and maintain a positive relationship with clients.

  • Assist with proposals, including the development of technical plans, schedules, and cost estimates, and preparation with staff and with the client.

  • Help support strategic initiatives for continued work with key clients and business sectors.

  • Manage multiple smaller company priorities and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above in engineering or related environmental field

  • Professional Engineer license required

  • Experience - 10+ years minimum in a related field

    • Solid waste management

    • Leachate Management

    • Landfill Construction Quality AssuranceSite Civil

  • Regulatory knowledge is required; New York experience a plus

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to think and act critically, independently and strategically

  • Solid organization and time management skills

  • Self-disciplined/motivated individual who also works well in a team environment

  • Proficiency with computer usage for document preparation including Word and Excel

  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design software; Civil 3D preferred

  • Established client relationships are a plus

  • Project management experience a plus, including budgets and invoicing

Pay: $115,000 - 150,000 annually, commensurate with skill level, geography region and experience.
